Bekantan

Bekantan, also known as the proboscis monkey, is a primate native to Borneo Island. Its scientific name is Nasalis larvatus. This monkey is easily recognized by its long nose and reddish-brown fur. A male bekantan usually has a bigger nose than a female. Its weight is about 6-22 kilograms, and its height is around 55-76 centimeters.

Bekantan lives in mangrove forests, especially in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. It spends most of its time in trees and is known as an arboreal animal. Bekantan can also swim very well because it has skin membranes between its fingers and toes.

This primate mainly eats young leaves, fruits, and flowers. Sometimes, it goes down to the ground to find food or water. Unfortunately, bekantan is an endangered species. Its population decreases due to habitat destruction and illegal hunting. To save bekantan, we need to protect the mangrove forests where it lives.

Unfortunately, orangutans are endangered. Deforestation, illegal hunting, and habitat loss continue to reduce their population. Conservation programs are now being developed to protect their forests and provide care for rescued orangutans.
