Materi Grammar Kelas 7: Adjective of Quality (Kata sifat yang menunjukkan Kualitas)

 

Salah satu materi pembuka Kelas 7 Chapter  awal di Semester 2 adalah mengenai Adjective of Quality, yaitu suatu kata sifat yang mendeskripsikan mengenai kualitas dari sesuatu(nouns/pronouns) berupa orang(person/people), hewan(animals), dan benda(things). Berikut ini adalah beberapa jenis kata sifat yang menunjukkan suatu kualitas:

1.	Colors: red, green, yellow, etc.	6.	Age: new, old, medieval, ancient, etc.
2.	Feelings: upset, angry, glad, etc.	7.	Qualities: good, nice, beautiful, etc.
3.	Shapes: square, round, rectangular, etc.	8.	Time: monthly, daily, weekly, etc.
4.	Sizes: thin, small, large, etc.	9.	Opinions: hot, pretty, handsome, etc.
5.	Origin: Latin, French, Mongolian, etc.	10.	Material: cotton, silver, aluminum, synthetic, etc.

Contoh Kata sifat (adjective) dalam kalimat:

1.    She has a sweet voice.

2.    They are  honest men.

3.    Shidqi is a good student.

4.    You may eat ripe bananas.

5.    There is a brown table in the livingroom

 

Kita sering menambahkan beberapa kata sifat di depan kata benda. Namun demikian, untuk kata sifat yang menunjukkan pendapat(opinion) diletakkan di urutan paling depan.

Example:

-     a beautiful young  woman

-     an expensive round clock

-     a nice red bag

In English, adjectives usually come in this order:

Dalam Bahasa Inggris, Kata sifat biasanya memiliki aturan urutan (Adjective orders) sebagai berikut:

Opinion – Size – Shape – Age – Colour – Nationality/Origin – Material – Purpose

Example:

1.    My sister has beautifulshort black hair.

2.    Last week, I visited a lovely little old village.

3.    He sits behind a big brown wooden chair.

Ketika ada dua atau lebih kata sifat yang berasal dari grup yang sama, maka harus ditambah –and

the two adjectives:

1.    The car  is green and red.

2.    The library has old  and new novels.

Ketika terdapat tiga atau lebih kata sifat yang berasal dari grup yang sama, kita dapat menambahkan koma (,) di antara kata sifat tersebut.

1.    We live  in the  big  green, white and red house at the  end of the  street.

2.    My  friend lost a red, black and white watch.
